Autism and the Amazing Little Steps

Autism affects every part of our lives and, honestly, I don't always notice it. That's what happens when you live with something (times two!) for more than 30 years, I guess. But one thing autism has taught me is to always, always be excited about the little steps that others may not even notice!
Yesterday - what an amazing day! Those of you who have been part of our journey know that Rob dislikes new clothes. Really, really doesn't like them. He has gotten better about wearing new pants, but shirts - nope. He likes what he likes and that's it. He tends to wear the same shirts over and over (and since Casey insists on having laundry to fold every day, his favorites are always clean!)
Yesterday, we went shopping and for lunch with Mandy and Rosie. When we stopped at Kohls, Casey went with Mandy and Rosie to look at socks and Rob came with me to look at books. He found one he wanted and we were walking back through the store to find everyone else when he ran into the boys' section to look at wind pants!
I told him we needed to go to the men's area for pants for him and he followed me there. He said "No fanks" to the first pairs I showed him and I really thought he would say that for everything. I was wrong!
He found a pair he liked and kept shopping until he found another one! I was completely in shock and so excited. Excited like I wanted to stop other shoppers and tell them what happened! (I didn't - I can imagine the look he would have given me!)
This just doesn't happen with Rob. Most of the time, he barely glances at clothes before he says "no fanks!" He touched every pair to see how they felt before he looked at colors to choose one. There was another pair that he wanted, but they didn't have his size, so I looked online. Still no luck, but hopefully, I can find them somewhere else. He chose to stay with his usual colors of black and gray, but I'm great with that!
He even asked me to wash them when we got home! Now, the real question....
Will he actually wear them?
We'll find out tomorrow morning!
I hope something completely amazing is happening in your world today!
